The 104th Fighter Squadron is a unit of the Maryland Air National Guard, stationed in Middle River, MD.
It's lineage traces all the way back to 1921 when the 104th flew Curtiss JN-4D Jennies as observation platforms, making them the first ANG unit to be equipped with its own aircraft.
After World War II in 1946, the 104th, equipped with P-47 Thunderbolts and later Mustangs, was charged up until the 50's as a fighter-interceptor squadron charged with defending the Baltimore-Washington area against Soviet bomber attack. They soon after, converted to F-86 Sabre's up until 1970 when they switched to the A-37 Dragonfly till '74's switch to the OA-37, the aircraft that preceded the legendary Republic A-10a Thunderbolt—a plane family that they fly to this day.
A former primary squadron, the 104th FS in USLANTCOM is now designated as a Secondary Squadron, allowing select members to fly the DCS A-10c-II in select campaigns as the premiere CAS aircraft.
Virtual USLANTCOM is a community of like-minded simulation enthusiasts that are in no way connected or affiliated with the real-life military or government entities that we have assimilated for entertainment purposes only. It is out of our sheer admiration for the men, women, and equipment that keep our values safe, that we seek to honor them by wearing the colors they bear — in the spirit of both gratitude, and humility.
