Of the sub groups within USLANTCOM the 6-6 is amongst the newest.
The mission of the 6th Squadron, 6th Cavalry Regiment, "Six-Shooters," is to, on order, deploy worldwide to conduct offensive operations, tactical reconnaissance, and limited security operations in support of the ground maneuver commander. It would also, on order, command and control an Aviation Task Force.
We strive to implement real world tactics and immerse ourselves into the virtual battle space to achieve our goal.
We currently field the AH-64D Apache Longbow, it is equipped with a glass cockpit and advanced sensors, the most noticeable of which being the AN/APG-78 Longbow millimeter-wave fire-control radar (FCR) target acquisition system and the Radar Frequency Interferometer (RFI), housed in a dome located above the main rotor. The radome's raised position enables target detection while the helicopter is behind obstacles (e.g. terrain, trees or buildings). The AN/APG-78 is capable of simultaneously tracking up to 128 targets and engaging up to 16 at once; an attack can be initiated within 30 seconds. A radio modem integrated with the sensor suite allows data to be shared with ground units and other Apaches, allowing them to fire on targets detected by a single helicopter. Along with the other systems and the two pilots allows us to put warheads on foreheads much more effectively then previous versions.
Prior to the modular transformation, the 6th Squadron, 6th Cavalry Regiment was a pure AH-64D Apache Longbow attack helicopter squadron with the primary mission to self deploy to any designated contingency area and conduct combat operations as part of the 11th Attack Helicopter Regiment. On order, it would conduct military operations that would engage and destroy an enemy or peacefully perform missions that ensure regional stability in the area of operations.
With the transition of the 6-6th Cavalry during Aviation Restructuring Initiative (ARI) transition of the mid-1990s, the unit had turned in their OH-58 scout helicopters for AH-64 attack helicopters.
The 6-6 are two companies Alpha Company "Assassins" (OH-58's) and Charlie Company "Outcasts" (AH-64's). Each comprised of 2 platoons each.
Virtual USLANTCOM is a community of like-minded simulation enthusiasts that are in no way connected or affiliated with the real-life military or government entities that we have assimilated for entertainment purposes only. It is out of our sheer admiration for the men, women, and equipment that keep our values safe, that we seek to honor them by wearing the colors they bear — in the spirit of both gratitude, and humility.
