VF-31, or Strike Fighter Squadron 31, is known as the Tomcatters, callsign "Felix", a United States Navy fighter squadron stationed at Naval Air Station Oceana.
The Tomcatters are the second oldest Navy Fighter Attack squadron operating today.
In USLANTCOM, we replicate VF-31 and operate the F-14B Tomcat, stationed at Nellis Air Force base and currently embarked on the USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71) a Nimitz-class, nuclear-powered aircraft carrier.
Prior to becoming VF-31, USLANTCOM operated two F-14B squadrons, VF-213 the Black Lions and VF-41 the Black Aces for a number of years. In order to make us a more effective and efficient fighting force, the decision was made to merge the two squadrons together and the result was the standing up of the Tomcatters.
VF-31 has regular squadron training on Wednesday nights. During our training we sharpen our skills in fleet defense, air superiority, ground attack and our proficiency around the carrier.
VF-31 also trains and works closely with the other squadrons in USLANTCOM, which pays dividends during cruise, our annual Black Flag event, and any mini-campaigns that are organized.
Virtual USLANTCOM is a community of like-minded simulation enthusiasts that are in no way connected or affiliated with the real-life military or government entities that we have assimilated for entertainment purposes only. It is out of our sheer admiration for the men, women, and equipment that keep our values safe, that we seek to honor them by wearing the colors they bear — in the spirit of both gratitude, and humility.
